Some Painful Growths

January 24th, 20105 views No comments

Oh how I love the joys of parenthood…..most of the time. I was a pretty young parent having a step son as soon as I got married and my first son within my first year of marriage. I never subscribed much to the school of thought regarding how teens drive you crazy. I still don’t lend that belief much credence. It is funny, however, how much they tend to make your stress levels go off the charts.

I want my boys to slow down and realize that they don’t have to accomplish everything they want to accomplish TODAY. They have time, plenty of time. I know some folks out there say that you should do all that you can as fast and as hard as you can because you never know if you will be alive tomorrow, BUT, I am not on of those thinkers.

Oh how I miss changing diapers and cuddling with them. YES I said it..changing diapers! Now it seems that I see them on their way out the door more than I see them at dinner time. It also feels like they have a lot of hate and while I am sure they don’t mean to they seem to focus it at me. Some of that is probably my mental state , but it sure feels real.

What to do, what to do? I guess ya just love them while you can and do the best you can and wait patiently for the days when they have their own families and realize what a job parents have. I think its only then that they will truly realize what a hard job it is raising, protecting and loving your children..

Basically they should Outlaw Basically

January 14th, 20102 views No comments

Today I would like to rant a bit about the overused term BASICALLY.  Seems like everyone from late night talk show hosts to politicians uses the term basically as a crutch or a filler word.  They need to STOP NOW!

We have a beautiful language.  The English language has thousands of words that roll off ones tongue with grace and fluidity.  I basically want everyone to stop murdering the language.  Basically this is our heritage we are talking about.  A gift that has been basically handed down from one generation to another that should basically be preserved.  Instead, we basically abuse it.  It is basically torture to the ears.

There are so many descriptive words that people can use to speak in a beautiful, meaningful way. You might be surprised if you stop and explore the extent of your own vocabulary, and the fact that you don’t use it for your own benefit. We all probably know the meanings of many words, but we don’t employ them in our speech or writing.

My theory is that basically is just one of those words that we use to “sum things up” or to say “well you should get it, its so simple I just explained the whole thing to you in English!”

So please, for the LOVE OF PETE, try to find some sprightly alternatives to the term BASICALLY. User your mind and come up with better more meaningful adjectives.  Basically, I am saying NO MORE BASICALLY!

Movies : Take One (and Leave one or Two)

January 3rd, 20103 views No comments

So I have to go back to the old office tomorrow.  I am ready.  I feel like I have had a great holiday.  I feel like I have never been closer to my family and my friends.

All this time off has given me an opportunity to get all caught up on my movie viewing.  Here is a quick breakdown of my opinion on some of the newer films floating around out there.  Most of my friends know my rating system for movies.

     There are only three levels.

No re-watching necessary.  In other words, you wont get a damn thing more out of this steaming pile even if you watched it a dozen more times.

Its worth watching a few times.  Replaying these flix will allow you  to squeeze all the juicy goodness out of the plot, acting and visuals but DON’T BUY cause you would waste your cash.

BUY THIS MOVIE!  You need to add this gem to your collection, its worth eternal replays.

     So ..here we go :

Avatar : Could have been the greatest movie ever.  I loved it don’t get me wrong, the story held it back some.  You have NEVER seen a movie this visually stunning.  It is what they say a game changer.

     – BUY THIS MOVIE!

Paranormal Activity : Nice scare your girlfriend movie with a lot of heart.  You could tell it was well thought out, until its puny ending.  Over all I’d watch it more than once (I did) to get all you can out of it.

     – Its worth watching a few times.

The Life of David Gale : I am a sucker for Kevin Spacey, just a phenomenal actor.  He was no let down here I tell ya.  Depressing as hell, twisting, turning plot.  Great story dragged down by supporting actors.

     – Its worth watching a few times.

Law Abiding Citizen : Jamie fox as a district attorney?  Gimme a break.  Gerrard butler is brilliant but what a loopy story.  A one watcher at best

     – No re-watching necessary

Taken : I love Liam Neeson in most movies, but in this one he was flat and lifeless and really out of place.  To be honest, the kidnapp my kid genre has been beaten to death.  This is just one more LOG on the fire.

     – No re-watching necessary

The Burrowers : A nifty premise.  Horror / Monster movie set in the old west.  Great Creature, not scarey at ALL.  Neat story, that had no clear beginning or end.  Strange sums it up pretty well.

     – No re-watching necessary

Sideways : Very nice movie worthy of the paise it received.  Great acting and nice cinemetography.  LOTSA a loose plot ends that NEVER get resolved.

     – Its worth watching a few times.

Well thats all. I plan on catching Sherlock Holmes soon I may update this post with that info since it WILL be this month.  Ciao!
